Lakers News: Kobe Is Up And Walking Without The Boot

Kobe Bryant has been spending his off-season recovering from his torn left Achilles tendon. What seems to be a long process has now begun to show improvements, and Kobe has taken his first steps without his walking boot less than two months after the injury.

“@kobebryant June 1st. 7:30am. My first steps without the boot. Rockin the #medicalmambas Walkin like a baby giraffe,” Bryant wrote. He then added the hashtags, #achillesrupture #challenge #pray4bear #recovery”

Since the injury, Kobe had expressed optimism about returning to the Lakers for the season opener in late October or early November, but Wednesday, when he talked with Mike Trudell and John Ireland on 710 ESPN, Kobe said that he is targeting either November or December to return to the court. That would be right on schedule for a six to nine month rehab which was the original diagnosis.

It was refreshing to hear Kobe’s goals for himself and making them public so the media cannot pressure him into making an early return and risking further injury.

Hopefully Kobe’s Instagram video was a sign of good things to come and his recovery is going smoothly. Fitting that Kobe posted a video of his recovery on a social media sight which he heavily rejected only a short year ago.
