Lakers News: Dwight Howard Banner Removed From Staples Center

dwightbannerRemember that Dwight Howard banner that was hanging on Staples Center? Well, less than 24 hours after the Lakers meeting with Howard, the banner has been taken down.

According to Arash Markazi of ESPN Los Angeles, the banner came down off of Staples Center on Wednesday, as planned.

Staples Center officials said the plan all along was to remove the banner after Tuesday night’s Los Angeles Sparks-Minnesota Lynx WNBA game. A crew began removing the banner around midnight and it was completely gone by early Wednesday morning.

But what about all those other Dwight Howard billboards the team had around the city? Turns out, those have been removed as well.

The Lakers also put up six billboards around the city, including one in Hollywood, and had some mobile billboards as well. The mobile billboards have been discontinued and the various billboards around town will be coming down soon as well.

The encouraging thing for the Lakers, I guess, is that they were scheduled to be taken down at this time regardless of how the meeting went with Howard or whether he had made a final decision or not. So the fact that the banners and billboards have been removed is not indicative of whether or not Howard plans on returning to the Lakers next season.

Howard is reportedly out of town for a few days, mulling over his options.
