Lakers News: Kobe Bryant Talks About Dwight Howard Departure

Kobe and DwightDuring Kobe Bryant’s basketball camp in Santa Barbara, California on Wednesday, the five-time NBA champion was asked numerous questions about the Dwightmare and the final meeting before Howard made his decision.

Kobe said the following via Serena Winters about going into the meeting with Dwight:

“I really didn’t feel anything. I really didn’t know what to expect.”

Shortly after commenting on the meeting with Dwight, Kobe said the following about Dwight’s reasoning behind leaving for the Houston Rockets via Winters:

“I don’t know.”

Kobe was also asked about his influence on free agent signings:

“It’s an open conversation.”

Over the past few days, the Lakers’ front office has reached out to multiple free agents, but have only officially signed three players.

Although the team has reached out to Nick Young and a few of other potential candidates, the Lakers seem to be bringing an old school feel to the team moving forward.

The first player to agree to terms with the Lakers was Chris Kaman who will help fill the void in the paint left by Dwight. Next in line was two-time NBA champion Jordan Farmar and now the team appears to be putting a lot of effort in bringing back former Sixth Man of the Year Lamar Odom as well.

Along with Farmar coming back and Odom potentially on the way, the team is also currently courting Josh Powell. The veteran forward won two titles with the Lakers and was also spotted at Kobe’s camp on Wednesday via Winters:

Needless to say, the Lakers are moving on from the Dwightmare and are looking to bring the band back together for at least one more season. It’ll be interesting to see how similar the squad looks in comparison to the 2010 championship team once it’s all said and done.
