Lakers News: Kobe Bryant Says Lakers Will Always Be Contenders

kobe2In what has to be considered one of the most wild offseasons in Laker history, the team has been through a myriad of changes and seems to be in a position that the organization is not used to.

With Kobe Bryant coming off the Achilles injury, Dwight Howard heading to Houston, and Metta World Peace possibly being amnestied, there is a possibility the Lakers might end up back in the draft lottery for the first time since 2005.

And with what is projected to be a loaded draft class, many people are actually calling for the Lakers to have a down year in order to secure a top draft pick and pick one of the studs at the top of the 2014 NBA Draft. Kobe Bryant however, doesn’t buy into that notion (quotes courtesy of Lakers Nation’s Daniel Buerge):

“One thing is for sure, the Lakers will always be contenders […] There’s a reason we have all those darn championships and it’s not gonna stop.”

These comments were made by Kobe while speaking to the children at his youth basketball camp today and honestly, did you expect anything else from Kobe?

He is one of the greatest competitors in the history of sports and there is no doubt he expects the Lakers to compete for a championship every season, especially as he knows his career is winding down.

The Lakers have a history of getting top players, whether it be through free agency, the draft, or trades and in order to continue to be top contenders for Kobe’s last few seasons as he expects, they will need to pull some Laker magic again.
