Lakers News: Andrew Wiggins Picks Kobe to Play One-On-One

Most NBA fans know of young Andrew Wiggins as the anticipated first pick of the 2014 NBA Draft and the main reason why many NBA teams will tank their season this upcoming year in order to have a shot at drafting him.

He will be playing his lone collegiate season in Kansas and barring any major injury, he will make one franchise very optimistic upon his arrival in the NBA.

Wiggins, who has yet to play a single minute for the Kansas Jayhawks, is already thinking about playing against the best the NBA can offer. In an interview with Rivals.com, he was asked which NBA player he would want to face in a one-on-one game. Wiggins chose Kobe Bryant for the following reason:

Wiggins, who could have also picked LeBron James, Kevin Durant, or Chris Paul, went with the Black Mamba. While many might argue that Kobe Bryant is at the tail end of his career, the admiration and respect shown by Wiggins is a testament to Bryant’s reign at the top of the NBA.

Wiggins recognizes Michael Jordan is the greatest, but also knows that Kobe Bryant is not too far behind. We will not know if Wiggins will pan out to be the incredible phenom he is expected to be, but he does respect the great ones that came before him and is not afraid to challenge them, which is very Kobe-like.
