Two-time NBA MVP Steve Nash of the Los Angeles Lakers will try out with Inter Milan soccer team in Italy according to AP via USA Today:
The Los Angeles Lakers point guard and two-time NBA MVP will have a tryout of sorts Tuesday with Inter Milan, just before the team opens play in the Guinness International Champions Cup tournament that’s coming to the USA starting next week. The tournament pits eight club teams from around the world, with a winner to be crowned in Miami on Aug. 7.
With Nash coming off an injury plagued season with the Lakers, it seems ill-advised that the 39-year-old point guard would attempt to play soccer internationally.
Although Nash is coming off a season filled with injury problems, the Canadian native has always had a soft spot for soccer. Before ultimately deciding to pursue a professional career in basketball, Nash played soccer as a child with a passion for the game.
Nash said the following about his pending tryout via USA Today:
“It’s a dream come true to get a chance to try out, not just to try out but to take the field with Inter Milan, one of the great, storied franchises in professional sports,” Nash said in an interview with the Associated Press. “I feel like a little kid.”
It remains to be seen whether or not Nash is truly serious about his upcoming tryout with one of the best teams in Italy. Nash’s chances of landing any sort of role with Inter Milan is remote to say the least, but anything can happen.
