Lakers News: Shaquille O’Neal Expects Tough Season For The Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers will enter this upcoming season with low expectations, and it will be tough for this team to even crack the top eight in the Western Conference.

After losing Dwight Howard during the offseason, many people have the Lakers as a lottery bound team with a very slim chance of making the postseason in the competitive Western Conference. Although the Lakers still have three stars in Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol and Steve Nash, they are battling injuries and age may be a factor down the road.

Former Laker great Shaquille O’Neal spoke to Time Warner Cable SportsNet, and he talked about what he expects from the team moving forward (via L.A. Times).

“It’s gonna be tough,” he said.  “They were dealt a major blow this summer, but the Buss family (especially Jeanie Buss, especially Jimmy Buss) I’m sure they have a lot of tricks up their sleeves.”

Even though the Lakers aren’t expecting to make much noise in 2013-14, the team has a plethora of cap space to work with in the summer of 2014. The free agency class next offseason has the potential to be a loaded one with LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony and Dwyane Wade as possible free agents.
