Tracy McGrady Says Kobe Bryant Is Toughest He’s Had To Guard

NBA: Detroit Pistons at Los Angeles LakersLast week during his “Kobe Up Close” special with Jimmy Kimmel, Kobe Bryant was asked who was the toughest guy he’s played against. After naming the likes of Allen Iverson, Carmelo Anthony and Kevin Durant, he said that Tracy McGrady, with his size and athleticism, was the guy who gave him the most problems.

This morning, TMZ caught up with McGrady at the airport and asked him what he thought about Bryant’s comments and who he thought was the best player he ever played against. Watch what he had to say below.

Because McGrady didn’t really get an opportunity to play against Michael Jordan in his prime, he reciprocated the respect and said that Bryant was the toughest guy he had to guard during his career, and he said that it wasn’t even close.

This should come as no surprise considering that McGrady’s best years came during the early 2000s in the small time frame between the end of Jordan’s prime and before guys like Dwyane Wade and LeBron James could establish themselves. Bryant and McGrady were easily the two best wings in the NBA during that time.
