Lakers News: Lakers Officially Sign Forward Shawne Williams

The Lakers have officially announced the signing of 6-foot-9 free agent forward Shawn Williams. Williams has spent six years in the NBA and has played for the Pacers, Mavericks, Knicks and Nets. He has averaged 5.7 points and 2.8 rebounds in his career.

Williams best season was the year he spent with the New York Knicks where he averaged 7.1 points and 3.7 rebounds in just over 20 minutes per game. He shot 40 percent from three with the Knicks, but is just a mediocre 33 percent shooter from long-range for his career.

Williams has been a career average scorer and rebounder, and will likely be a body who will play some minutes at the three to give a breather to Nick Young and Wesley Johnson, especially earlier in the season with Kobe Bryant working his way back into playing shape.

No details about the contract have been released.
