VIDEO: God Shammgod Talks About Teaching Kobe His Signature Move

klayanklesGod Shammgod was a cult hero among basketball fans in the mid-to-late 90s as he had some of the best ball-handling skills on the hardwood. One of the lesser known stories about Kobe Bryant, however, is that he learned some ball handling skills from Shammgod.

“His father used to want me to teach him how to dribble. I used to tell him, ‘Oh, if you just do this one move, you’ll be good because you’re 6-7,'” said Shammgod. “It was up to him to keep working at it, and he did and took it to the next level. I don’t think he can do it like I could do it, but he did it justice. Of course he did something, he’s Kobe Bryant, probably the best player in the NBA right now. For me, it’s just an honor for him to tell people that I showed him how to dribble.”

That’s an interesting tidbit in a long line of interesting tidbits in Kobe’s lengthy career. It should be noted that this video was recorded three years ago. You can watch the Shammgod interview below and some God Shammgod highlights below that.
