Shawne Williams Indicates That He Will Be Opening Night Starter

Following the Lakers Sunday practice, head coach Mike D’Antoni refused to set a starting lineup. With Chris Kaman returning to the team after two games that saw Shawne Williams start at the power forward position, that was really the only spot that was in question.

According to Serena Winters, Williams believes that he will receive the start at the power forward spot on Tuesday night.

For Opening Night, the starting lineup will be Steve Nash, Steve Blake, Nick Young, Shawne Williams and Pau Gasol.

This lineup has been up and down while on the floor together. In the second half of last Friday’s game, the unit played extremely well together and extended on a lead that the second unit built. In the game before that, the starters struggled to find some cohesion.

It’ll be interesting to see where D’Antoni can work in Kaman because the second unit has played well together without him in the lineup. Kaman’s return could mean a decrease in Jordan Hill’s minutes as that’ll likely be the toughest issue for D’Antoni in his rotations.
