Lakers News: Kobe To Receive Over $24 Million From Lakers Tomorrow

Kobe Pt. 1Kobe Bryant is by far the highest paid player in the NBA. In his final year of his contract, Bryant is due to receive more than $30 million from the Lakers.

Most players in sports receive their money throughout the year through monthly payments. Bryant however, doesn’t operate like other players and that is what makes him great.

As part of his contract that he signed in 2010, Bryant negotiated a clause that would allow him to receive a balloon payment as opposed to getting his money spread out throughout the year. As a result of this, Bryant will receive a payment of $24,363,044 on November 1, as reported by the LA Times.

With Kobe up for another contract after this season it is anyone’s guess as to how much the Lakers will pay him. Kobe, as he has stated before, is going to try and get the most money. But the Lakers have also made it clear that they want to bring in some new pieces and in order for that to happen, Kobe will have to take a pay cut.

Whether or not Kobe will have this clause written into his next contract as well is anyone’s guess. You have to wonder, however, why Kobe wanted that clause for the huge lump sum payment in the first place. Even if he were to get paid monthly he would be getting over $2.5 million each month which would seem to be enough, but maybe Kobe has something special planned for the wife and family.

Kobe is an excellent businessman and he has a reason for everything he does, so I’m sure he already has his plans ready for the next contract being negotiated.
