The Lakers received shocking news today that Kobe Bryant will be out for six weeks due to a knee fracture sustained in the Lakers victory against the Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday night. It was believed at first that he hyper extended it, as he continued to play on the injured knee. This is another devastating blow as Bryant has just come back from a long hiatus due to his Achilles injury. Is this an isolated incident, or can this be a long chain of injuries to come for the aging Bryant?
It was also announced today that Xavier Henry will play the point guard position for the Lakers. This is just be a temporary fix until Jordan Farmar comes back from his hamstring injury. As we have seen this season, Henry has played the point coming off the bench this season, but has not looked very comfortable running the offense. However, Henry has done pretty well in the pick and roll and creating shots for himself this season. Look for Henry to be more aggressive as he starts for the Lakers and has free reigns to run the show.
In related news, Steve Nash’s return has also been delayed for four more weeks. As Nash continues to battle his ailments, the Lakers will have to keep playing as a cohesive unit. Like they say in Hollywood “the show must go on”.
