Lakers News: Jordan Farmar Cleared To Play For Christmas

jordan-farmar-0dc7a8fad12f1b1bThe narrative surrounding the Lakers for the past two seasons has largely been the ever-expanding list of injuries. This year, the Lakers have seen all three point guards go down and Kobe Bryant suffer another injury in his left leg.

Pau Gasol recently missed his first game with a respiratory issue while Chris Kaman has missed several games due to an injured back. Today, the Lakers finally got some good news as Jordan Farmar will re-join the team for their Christmas Day game against the Miami Heat, according to the Lakers official Twitter account.

Farmar has dealt with a hamstring tear that has kept him out of the Lakers last 10 games. Farmar left the game against the Portland Trailblazers after one minute of action. Steve Blake would head to the injured-reserve list three games later, leaving the Lakers without a true point guard on the roster for the past seven games.

While Kendall Marshall has been signed for the Lakers last two games, he has seen a total of 10 minutes and has not made any real impact for the team. In the Lakers seven games without a point guard, they’ve managed to avoid a complete disaster during the stretch, going 3-4 with wins over Memphis and Minnesota.

Farmar’s return doesn’t immediately fix the Lakers problems as they’ll still lack depth, but his addition will be welcomed as they host the defending champion Heat on Christmas. Following the game against Miami, the Lakers will have a stretch of winable games when they’ll head to Utah on the following Friday before a four game home stand against the likes of Philadelphia, Milwaukee, Utah and Denver — teams with a combined record of 36-78.
