With the three top point guards out for a significant amount of time, Kendall Marshall will make his first start against the Utah Jazz tonight. While Marshall had 10 points and seven assists in Tuesday’s loss to the Bucks, the Los Angeles Lakers have reportedly inquired about Toronto’s Kyle Lowry.

Over the past month, there have been rumors of the Raptors moving Lowry. However, Toronto has played surprisingly well since the Rudy Gay trade and talks didn’t go anywhere according to CBS Sports’ Ken Berger:

Things can always change in Lakerland, but for now, the team intends to keep Pau Gasol and ride it out with the group it has. In fact, league sources say the Lakers lodged an inquiry with Toronto about a deal for Kyle Lowry to stabilize their injury-ravaged point guard position.

While the Lakers have been looking to trade Pau Gasol for Andrew Bynum, it is interesting to note that they intend to keep Gasol for the foreseeable future now. Although Lowry would be a great upgrade at point guard, the Lakers likely don’t have enough pieces to acquire him.

With the Lakers’ backcourt completely depleted, they will have to rely on Marshall playing major minutes with Jodie Meeks likely backing him up. Although he has played sparingly since being signed by the Lakers, Marshall has looked more comfortable on the floor and has done a solid job of creating wide open opportunities for his teammates.
