With all the unfortunate injury news for the Lakers, they received another dagger when it was announced today that Xavier Henry’s timetable for a return would be pushed back.
Henry suffered a bone bruise on December 29 against the Philadelphia 76ers, and was originally expected to be reevaluated on January 9. However, that won’t be happening until next week according to Serena Winters of Lakers Nation.
The Lakers injury situation couldn’t be any worse, as virtually every key player on the roster has had to miss games due to nagging ailments. Henry has resurrected his career in a Laker uniform, and was hitting his stride after finding his niche in Mike D’Antoni’s uptempo offense. He’s having a career year posting career averages of 10.1 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game over 31 games.
On the bright side, the Lakers may have found a diamond in the rough in Kendall Marshall. He’s played exceptionally well filling in for the missing guards in the Lakers rotation. Coming from the D-League, it wasn’t expected that Marshall would make this much of an impact, but it’s evident that his hard work has paid off.
We should expect Marshall to continue his success on the court until players like Henry are available to return.
