D-Fenders News: D-Fenders Sign Former Knicks Guard Chris Smith

knicks4The D-Fenders have been extremely busy over the last few days. After recently signing forward Terrance Williams, the team has brought in another new face as former New York Knicks guard Chris Smith has signed with the D-Fenders according to Ridiculous Upside.

Smith was recently waived by the Knicks in order for the team to sign Jeremy Tyler. Smith logged only two total minutes for the Knicks and was the subject of some scrutiny as many believed his contract was a favor to his brother, Knicks guard J.R. Smith.

Smith will help bolster the D-Fenders backcourt, especially with the recent injury to Kareem Rush. He will join Josh Magette, Josiah Turner, and D-League Performer of the Week Manny Harris to form a very potent backcourt rotation.

After their 116-109 victory over the Sioux Falls Skyforce, the D-Fenders have now won four straight games and have climbed over the .500 mark for the first time this season.

As a combo guard, Smith will be able to relieve either Magette or Harris off the bench and which is a great addition for an uptempo team like the D-Fenders. He is also a great three-point shooter which fits right in with what Coach McKinnon is looking for.

With the nature of a D-League roster and how much upheaval consistently occurs, acquiring talented bodies is always a necessity and the D-Fenders should be better off because of it.

In his final year at Louisville Smith averaged just under 10 points, four rebounds, and two assists per game.
