Lakers Rumors: Lakers ‘Lukewarm’ On Signing Carmelo Anthony
[new_royalslider id=”160″]

With the Lakers continued struggles this season, a lot of focus gas gone towards the off-season. With a loaded draft class, and a number of big name free agents, hopes are high that the Lakers will make big changes.

One of the most rumored possibilities has been New York Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony, but it is beginning to look unlikely that he will join the Lakers.

Yahoo! Sports’ Marc J. Spears reports that the Knicks will not trade Anthony before the trade deadline:

There is “no chance” the Knicks will deal Carmelo Anthony, who owns a contract opt-out this summer, before the trade deadline, a source said.

The Knicks obviously believe that they will be able to keep Anthony if he uses his opt-out clause this summer. If Anthony is a free agent, he will undoubtedly be targeted by a number of teams.

One of those teams is expected to be the Lakers, but according to Pro Basketball Talk’s Kurt Helin, that may not be the case:

The Lakers idea isn’t happening, they are lukewarm on adding him next to Kobe Bryant

Anthony is one of the league’s most gifted scorers, but his style of play is very similar to that of Bryant. They both thrive with the ball in their hands, and it can be difficult for players like that to play together.

Of course, Bryant is on the last legs of his career and the team needs to get their next star in place.

Some believe that star will be Kevin Love, or Kyrie Irving, or both. Whatever the case may be, the next few months will be key to the Lakers future.
