After the Los Angeles Lakers’ comeback attempt fell short against the Memphis Grizzlies, players tried to keep their spirits up after the 108-103 loss that dropped them to 19-39 on the season.

Following the loss to the Indiana Pacers yesterday, Pau Gasol had some comments about the focus and discipline of the team after losing six of their previous seven games.

Point guard Jordan Farmar had some comments discussing his role in the locker room with the losses beginning to pile up via Time Warner Cable SportsNet:

Farmar is one of the veteran players on this Lakers team and was around for the Lakers’ championship runs a few years back. He uses his leadership not only on the court at the point guard position, but also in the locker room, as the team tries to come together and earn some victories.

Farmar returned from injury recently and is still on a bit of a minutes limit. Against the Grizzlies, he had 16 points and three assists in 24 minutes for the Lakers and was on the court during the team’s comeback from a 20-point deficit.

The 27-year-old Farmar has been around Gasol longer than the other players, giving him an advantage in dealing with the seven-footer. It is not known whether Farmar was talking directly about Gasol in his comments, but he is definitely someone who the younger players can go to when they get down on themselves after all of the losses.

After spending a season overseas, Farmar has done well in his return to the NBA, averaging 8.8 points and 4.9 assists per game in 27 games this season. He has struggled with injuries, like much of the Laker team, but has provided a steady, veteran presence when on the court.
