VIDEO: 2014 Susan G. Komen Race For The Cure With Lakers’ Jordan Hill

Usually in the calendar year, by the time March rolls around, we’ve got a pretty good sense of the spring season knocking on our door.

Typically, the birds are singing their song, trees are painting the skies green, and the sun is showing off just a bit longer throughout the day. However, this Saturday morning on March 1st, it was the exact opposite. You woke up to cloudy skies, strong storm warnings, and crashing rain. The one thing that these two types of March mornings do have in common is the Susan G. Komen Race For The Cure. Rain or shine. Night or day. This 18-year tradition, that has raised nearly $9 million to provide community-based grants to local organizations to assist with breast cancer screenings, education, and treatment, is so firmly implanted in the heart of the city; there is nothing that could stop this event from taking place.

This year’s event took place at Dodgers Stadium, what many consider the heart and soul of Los Angeles. Thousands of people gathered together, dressed in a variety of different weatherproof attire and walking or running outfits to take part in the 5K or 10K events. But the one common denominator among this vast army of supporters was the color pink.

Among those supporters was Lakers very own, Jordan Hill. Last year, Hill became the official ambassador of the event. Hill has a special place in his heart for the fight against breast cancer, as he lost his mother to it when he was only three years old. He understands the importance of being educated on the subject, and pushes for urgency on the matter. Hill and his team have gathered yet again to support the cause and unite the community in making a difference.

We look forward to the next Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. And, we hope Jordan and Team Hill will be back in 2015.
