Heading into NBA free agency, Pau Gasol was excited at the prospect of being able to call the shots and dictate where he’ll be playing next season.

After weighing his options as a free agent for the first time in his career, the Spaniard is headed to the Chicago Bulls, according to his Twitter account:

With Gasol constantly being mentioned in trade rumors over the past three years while with the Los Angeles Lakers, the two-time NBA champion had enough and wanted to go to a team that would provide the best chance to contend in the twilight of his career.

The Bulls will provide Gasol with the ability to play for a contender with Chicago having a solid squad led by superstar Derrick Rose and arguably one of the best head coaches in the business in Tom Thibodeau.

Now that LeBron James has taken his talents back to Cleveland, there’s been a power shift in the Eastern Conference giving the Bulls a great chance to capitalize. The Cleveland Cavaliers will almost certainly be a serious threat in the East next season, but there’s a possibility it’ll take some time for LeBron to right the ship with Kyrie Irving and Andrew Wiggins.
