The Los Angeles Lakers are in the midst of arguably the worst stretch in the history of the franchise. After the most losses in team history last year, the team is 1-7 heading into Friday night’s game against the San Antonio Spurs, and injuries continue to torment the team.

Despite so many signs pointing towards the team remaining near the bottom of the league, head coach Byron Scott remains steadfast in his belief of the Lakers organization. According to ESPN’s Baxter Holmes, Scott even told the team that they would win a championship while he was head coach:

I told them that I have no doubt that we will win a championship in my tenure here as head coach,” Scott told ESPN.com this week, “because I know this organization. But I do know it’s going to take some patience. It’s a process.”

Scott’s star player, Kobe Bryant agreed with him, noting the Lakers’ track record as proof the team can turn things around:

I agree,” Lakers star Kobe Bryant told ESPN.com when asked about Scott’s remark.

Why?

“Faith,” Bryant continued. “The Lakers’ track record. This organization is really good about turning around, period. We don’t have many dry years.”

Even with all of the confidence and belief, the Lakers are still a long ways away from championship contention, but Scott knows that and that is why he is preaching patience.

The front office has its work cut out for them in the coming years, but armed with cap space and some possible draft picks, the Lakers may have the ability to get back on track sooner than some expect.
