Despite a rough season, the Los Angeles Lakers have had a share of wins over some of the NBA’s better teams. Already having picked up a win against the Golden State Warriors earlier in the year, the Lakers nearly got another Monday night but fell just short when Wesley Johnson turned the ball over in the closing seconds.

Following the game, head coach Byron Scott was asked if there was any solace in a close loss to the NBA’s best team. According to Lakers Nation reporter Serena Winters, Scott told reporters he didn’t believe so and doesn’t like to lose no matter who the opponent is:

The Lakers have had difficulties registering victories, but have been playing relatively well as of late. Just the night before, the Lakers nearly defeated the Eastern Conference’s best team, the Atlanta Hawks.

Jordan Clarkson and Wayne Ellington led the Lakers in scoring with 17 points each Monday. It was all part of a well balanced effort as four other Lakers also reached double digits. Despite the costly turnover, Johnson chipped in 16 points while Jordan Hill and Jeremy Lin both had 15. Carlos Boozer tacked in ten.

The upcoming schedule for the Lakers eases up with their next two games against the Utah Jazz and Philadelphia 76ers. Although the Jazz have been winners in their last six, the Lakers will look to continue their strong play as they continue to evaluate players over the final month of the season.
