Although many questioned the reasoning behind the trade, with Lin coming off a disappointing stint in Houston, new head coach Byron Scott has been impressed with what he’s seen out of the Harvard product.

Scott said the following about Lin after the second day of practice at the team’s facility in El Segundo, according to Lakers Nation reporter Serena Winters:

As of right now, the consensus is that Steve Nash will keep his role as the starting point guard heading into next season. Nash has reportedly looked good in scrimmages over the past few weeks, showing no ill effects from his injury-plagued season last year.

Although Nash may ultimately be the starter on Oct. 28 against the Rockets, Lin has definitely shown that he will get considerable minutes in Los Angeles. Lin may eventually contend for the starting role if Nash struggles or simply is unable stay healthy.

Regardless of who may or may not be the starter, the Lakers have a good situation in the backcourt with the combination of Lin and Nash. Rookie Jordan Clarkson may also play a big role if Nash does become an injury concern once again. Also, Ronnie Price could make an impact if the team decides to keep him on the roster.
