Chris Paul Elected NBPA President, Steve Blake Joins Executive Committee

The vacancy of the players’ union (NBPA) presidency left by former Laker and current member of the Oklahoma City Thunder, Derek Fisher, has been filled. The NBPA is currently holding its annual meeting in Las Vegas and announced on Wednesday evening, via Twitter, that the NBPA has elected Chris Paul as their newest president.

A few weeks ago, it was reported that Lebron James was considering a run at the NBPA presidency, but he withdrew his name from consideration shortly after. Chris Paul is well-respected around the league on and off the court, so a move to represent the players seems logical as he will add a strong voice to the position.

Roger Mason Jr. was elected as first vice president of the NBPA during their annual meeting. Two new names will be joining the NBPA’s executive committee as vice presidents, Anthony Tolliver and Lakers guard Steve Blake.

There have been reports and rumors that there is discontent of the current state of the union, and therefore, this new executive committee will have to stay proactive. Chris Paul assumed first responsibility as NBPA president will be to replace Billy Hunter’s position, who was fired by former NBPA president Derek Fisher.
