D-Fenders News: D-Fenders Clinch West Division After Win Against Reno

The Los Angeles D-Fenders defeated the Reno Bighorns on Monday night, 119-108. While earning their 30th victory of the season, the D-Fenders officially clinched the West division title.

In the first quarter, the team was strong defensively forcing the Bighorns into 10 big turnovers which were translated into 14 points. They held an 11-point lead above Reno as the first quarter finished, and at one point, they led by as many as 23 points in the second. The Bighorns were able to condense their deficit towards the end of the quarter, but their efforts were never enough to take the lead. The D-Fenders shot 51 percent from the floor in their triumphant first half.

Heading into the third quarter, the D-Fenders slipped up a little bit allowing Reno to go on a 12-4 run which let the Bighorns get within a single-digit reach. In the final period, the Bighorns shrunk the deficit by as little as six points, but with the D-Fenders shooting 64.7 percent in the fourth quarter, they were able to get the victory and clinch their division.

Brandon Coster, Terrence Williams and James Southerland all finished with more than 20 points in Monday’s game, and Shawne Williams contributed with 19 points in the D-Fenders win. They look for their next victory on Wednesday against the Erie Bayhawks in their last home game of the season.
