The Los Angeles Lakers got their preseason underway on Sunday night with rookie point guard D’Angelo Russell making his debut playing alongside Kobe Bryant and company.

Russell recently suffered a foot injury during training camp that was a concern and something the team was closely monitoring heading into the matchup with the Utah Jazz.

According to Sam Amick of USA Today, Russell wasn’t bothered by the bone bruise in his foot during his preseason debut:

With so many injuries ripping this team apart over the last few years, including a season-ending injury for Julius Randle last season, the Lakers brass want to make sure they can start the 2015-16 NBA season healthy. Russell entering his rookie season with an injury would be more of the same for this team, but it appears that may not be an issue with Russell seemingly being able to play through it.

In 21 minutes against the Jazz, Russell finished with five points, three assists and three rebounds while shooting 2-for-8 from the floor. Although Russell’s numbers aren’t going to blow anyone away, the rookie showed some of those incredible passing skills and his range in the loss to Utah.

The Lakers will be back in action on against the Jazz for a second time in Hawaii on Weds. Oct. 7.
