The two players that will, most likely, headline next summer’s free agent class reportedly had dinner together in Orlando.

Deron Williams and Dwight Howard met for dinner when the New Jersey Nets were in Orlando to take on Howard’s Magic. While Williams didn’t want to talk about it, Howard had no problem admitting that the two are friends are regularly spend time together off the court.

“Since he’s been in the league, every time he comes to town, we go eat dinner and just kick it. We’ve been friends since the Olympics, and so we go out to eat, have a bite.”

This could be alarming news for fans in Orlando as well as Los Angeles, both of whom are trying to prevent Howard from ending up with Williams in New Jersey. There were plenty of trade rumors reporting that Howard would be sent to New Jersey last week. However, an injury to New Jersey center Brook Lopez, who would be the focal point of the package sent to Orlando in return for Howard, derailed the talks for now.

While in reality this probably means nothing, it’s certainly something that will help fuel the trade fires in the NBA.
