Dwight Howard on Departure From Magic: “I Don’t Have Any Regrets”

The Los Angeles Lakers have made a lot of enemies over the years due to their lasting success. Although the Lakers executed the correct trades and signings, some franchises get upset that the Lakers are almost always battling for a championship. The Lakers may be considered the Yankees of the NBA, but there is nothing wrong with having the league’s best front-office.

Still, a lot of people lambaste players for leaving small market franchises to join ones in larger cities. LeBron James started the recent rebirth of these types of movements, and the newest Lakers center Dwight Howard is the most recent example. Howard left his former Orlando Magic team and his future is now with the Lakers. The “Dwightmare” consisted of a constant back and forth and rumors were circling for almost two years. The divorce between the Magic and Howard was not pretty, but Howard told ESPN that he has no regrets.

“I don’t have any regrets, you know. I think everything happened the way that it was meant to happen,” Howard told ESPN. “I really just wish some of the lies and some of the things being said didn’t come out the way it did, you know.

Even though Howard’s next season will be with the Los Angeles Lakers, his long-term future is still not clear. He has yet to sign an extension with the Lakers and has always said he will test free agency in the summer of 2013.

So even though the Magic finally unloaded Dwight Howard, the Lakers may have to deal with the “Dwightmare.” The franchise is focused on the 2012-13 season, but general manager Mitch Kupchak is certainly thinking about the summer of 2013.
