The Los Angeles Lakers had a very turbulent regular season, but the team managed to grab the seventh seed in the Western Conference. Los Angeles dealt with various injuries to its star players and were faced with a coaching change a few games into the season.
The hiring of Mike D’Antoni received some very mixed reviews and many people did not think he was a good fit for this Lakers team. Even though Los Angeles ended up making the post season, the team clinched the spot on the very last day of the season. D’Antoni still has a lot of work to do with the Lakers, but general manager Mitch Kupchak stated that he will give D’Antoni enough time to figure out the roster.

After the Lakers’ win over the Houston Rockets, Dwight Howard was asked what he thought about Kupchak securing D’Antoni’s future.
Dwight when asked about Mitch Kupchak saying D’Antoni is safe to stay on as head coach: “What matters is San Antonio, not next season”

It is nice to see that Howard is focusing solely on the Lakers’ playoff series versus the Spurs and is not allowing outside distractions impact his game. With Bryant no longer in the lineup, the leadership role will fall on Howard and he must act like a captain both on and off the court.
