Former Laker Rick Fox Talks Kobe-Shaq Feud; 2004 NBA Finals Collapse

As one of the key members of the three straight championships won by the Los Angeles Lakers between 2000-2002, NBATV’s Rick Fox joined Bill Simmons to talk about a number of different topics.

Simmons, as a die-hard fan of the Boston Celtics, talked to Fox about his time in Beantown before getting into his championship seasons with the Lakers.

It wasn’t long before the Kobe-Shaq feud was mentioned and why Fox hadn’t written a book about his first-hand experience. Fox went on to say the feud had all his teammates “on edge” and a distraction at times.

Fox also talked about the twilight of Kobe’s career and how he believes the superstar intends to play three or four more years and not just two more as his contract extension suggests.

Although Fox alluded to the fact that Phil Jackson’s book, Eleven Rings, left some things out in terms of the Kobe-Shaq feud, perhaps the most interesting comments were made about the Lakers collapsing in the 2004 NBA Finals.

Fox claimed that the Lakers were “too arrogant” and didn’t take the Detroit Pistons seriously.
