Former Laker point guard Smush Parker finds himself in a bit of controversy.

Last week, during a pickup basketball game at Basketball City at Pier 36, Parker punched high schooler Wolfgang Novogratz a 6’2, 185 pound star guard at Brooklyn’s Poly Prep.

According to PageSix.com, the incident was escalated due to some tough, physical play during the game:

“Wolfie scored back-to-back baskets on Smush,” said my source. “At the other end, Smush went up for a shot. There was a hard foul, and they both went down. Smush got up and punched Wolfie in the face.”

Novogratz, son of HGTV reality TV stars Robert and Cortney Novogratz, was taken to the hospital for precautionary reasons. He is also declining to press charges against the former Laker.

Parker spent two years with the Lakers, posting career highs in points, rebounds, assists, and steals while with the team.

Over the last couple of years, he has engaged in a war of words with Kobe Bryant, but things have calmed down recently.
