It may be only a matter of time before Phil Jackson takes over basketball operations for the New York Knicks. Although Jackson hasn’t put pen to paper, all signs point to Jackson heading to the East coast.
With Jackson potentially returning to New York, the immediate future for Carmelo Anthony has come into question. Anthony can opt-out of his deal with the Knicks this summer and may elect to do so.

After coaching Anthony for eight years in Denver, George Karl knows the superstar better than most and seems to believe Anthony isn’t the kind of player Jackson favors. Karl spoke to Colin Cowherd on The Herd saying the following according to Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN New York:
“To me, when you ask me that question, I don’t think Melo is a Phil Jackson type of player,” Karl said on “The Herd.” “That would be my answer to that.”
Outside of limited success with the Denver Nuggets while playing alongside Chauncey Billups, Anthony really hasn’t proven he can be a winner or a game-changer. There’s no question that Anthony is one of the most dynamic scorers in the NBA, but he hasn’t been able to win that elusive championship and chances of doing so continue to get worse.
Although Jackson may be able to help right the ship in New York, there’s no guarantee Anthony will be there to experience it.
