Grantland Ranks Los Angeles Lakers Best Court Design

Los Angeles Lakers games are an experience unlike any other. The stars who attend the game, the fanfare surrounding the team, even the lighting all adds to the atmosphere at Staples Center every night the Lakers take the floor.

One thing that doesn’t get talked about much is the actual floor itself. But that is what the good folks at Grantland did today, ranking all 30 NBA court designs, and the Lakers came out on top. Zach Lowe had nothing but great things to say about the court:

The blue is beautiful, soft and deep, and the Lakers have let it stand alone by removing almost all the lane markings […] The centerpiece has always been perfect — the tasteful L.A. logo, with a star for each of the franchise’s 16 championships. The alternate “L” logo in two corners is a recent addition, and it adds some spice […] The Lakers use the theater lighting system, and the spotlighting, bright Forum gold and general L.A. atmosphere combine to lend Lakers games the unmatched feel of a monumental event.

There has always been the notion that Lakers games are unlike any other in sports, and Lowe made a compelling argument as to why. No one else in professional sports has the colors of the Lakers and combined with the pageantry of Los Angeles, it makes perfect sense that the Lakers would be on the top of this list.

Hopefully, this isn’t the only time that the Lakers are at the top of any rankings this season, but with Kobe Bryant returning, things can only get better for the purple and gold.
