The latest NBA power rankings from ESPN columnist John Hollinger have placed the Miami Heat ahead of the pack. This is sure to cause some controversy considering the second team on Hollinger’s list is the undefeated, back to back champion, Los Angeles Lakers.

Hollinger is known for his unique statistical system known as PER Diem, and hasn’t been adverse to controversy since he started this particular method. For the rest of the league, however, it is slightly strange to see a team with a 5-2 record atop the rankings. Especially when there are teams with records of 7-0, 6-0, 5-1, and two teams with 6-2 records, all of which are better than the Heat’s current record.

While Hollinger certainly has a method to his apparent madness, do the Heat deserve to be the top spot after their rather disappointing start? Let the debate begin.
