The Los Angeles Lakers have been decimated over the past two seasons with injuries and if the start of this season is any indication, things may not get much better this season.

Having already lost Nick Young for eight weeks and Jordan Clarkson for at least one week, Jeremy Lin suffered a sprained ankle in practice today according to Mike Bresnahan of the LA Times:

Sprained ankles are always difficult because they can linger around for much longer than people anticipate. Hopefully Lin’s is minor and he will be able to return soon, but with it being only preseason, he will likely take his time coming back.

The Lakers can ill afford to lose Lin for an extended period of time as he is expected to play a major role for the team, even if he doesn’t start. Head Coach Byron Scott will closely monitor the minutes of Steve Nash and Lin will see a lot of court time.

With Clarkson also going down recently, the point guard position for the Lakers now comes down to Nash and Ronnie Price.

On the plus side for the Lakers, Xavier Henry scrimmaged for the first time this season today. A return by him could pay major dividends for the Lakers as he spent some time at point guard last season and would give the team another ball-handler.
