Judge Rejects Kobe Bryant’s Dismissal Request Over Memorabilia

Kobe Bryant By now I’m sure you’ve heard of all the drama surrounding Kobe Bryant and his mother and the legal battle they’re currently dealing with. After Bryant’s mother tried to sell some of Kobe’s old memorabilia that was supposedly left in her garage, the Lakers’ star attempted to block the sale by filing a lawsuit. Ultimately it’s spiraled into one big mess, and will have to be dealt with in court.

But Kobe isn’t going to get his first wish, of having the case dismissed. According to the Courier Post, the judge denied Bryant’s request for dismissal, and the case will head to court.

A federal judge on Friday rejected the basketball star’s request to dismiss a lawsuit filed against him by Goldin Auctions of West Berlin. U.S. District Judge Renee Bumb also declined to move the trial to Bryant’s home state of California.

Bryant, who is also recovering from a brutal Achilles tear, now gets the pleasure of a legal battle with his own mother to deal with this summer. The trial is set to begin June 17, and will consist of the auction house trying to prevent Bryant from interfering with an event that would allow them to put his items up for sale.

This surely isn’t the last we’ve heard of this story, but for now it appears as if the Bryant family is headed for court.
