Kings to Remain in Sacramento; Abandon Relocation For Now

According to Kurt Helin of NBC Pro Basketball Talk the Sacramento Kings and their owners will announce Monday that the team will remain in Sacramento. According to CSN Sacramento the Maloofs will announce tomorrow that they will not be relocating despite many rumors saying they would move to Anaheim.

After the Maloof brothers negotiated a lease agreement with the Honda Center it was all but assured that the Kings would become the third team in Southern California.

While tomorrow’s news will certainly be a relief for Kings fans in Sacramento, it certainly doesn’t mean the end of possible relocation efforts. The city will be able to retain the Kings for next season, but the team and the city still face a long battle. If the Kings and the city of Sacramento are unable to agree on a new arena deal it is possible the team could still seek relocation following the 2011-2012 season.
