Now that Kobe Bryant is finished with basketball, he has turned his focus towards his production and publishing company Kobe Inc. Kobe has said that he wants to tell stories and thankfully for him, he’s got some heavyweight names to help him out along the way.
When Kobe isn’t throwing ideas around with his staff, he is getting advice from the likes of Steven Spielberg, J.J. Abrams, and Jerry Bruckheimer, three of the most successful directors in Hollywood.
According to ESPN.com, Kobe enjoys allowing those guys to nitpick everything he does:
“I mean those are like unfair advantages,” Bryant said, laughing. “I can pick up the phone and speak to them and ask them questions: `What do you think about the story? What is this missing?’ And they’ll nitpick every single detail and I love it.”
Kobe also noted that they share a connection due to the deep respect each has for the others’ accomplishments in their respective fields:
“They respect and appreciate what I’ve done for 20 years as I respect and appreciate what they’ve done over the years. And we understand that there is a unifying force between those two things,” Bryant said. “Even though the disciplines are different, the commitment, attention to detail is absolutely the same. So even though Steven Spielberg can start speaking in film language and I won’t understand a damn thing, I understand the core, the essence of what he’s saying.”
There was never any doubt that Kobe would put everything he has into whatever he’s doing. That is what makes Kobe who he is. When you have the resources that Kobe has, it only makes sense to take advantage of them and bouncing ideas of Spielberg, Abrams, and Bruckheimer is something very few can do.
Kobe seems to be relentless as ever in attacking this business and with his mindset, as well as the best in the world giving him pointers along the way, he should be successful.
