Kobe Bryant Joins Chinese Social Media Site

kobeKobe Bryant is one of the world’s most popular athletes and his brand has reached every corner of the earth. Kobe’s appeal is strong even in other countries and his international popularity was evident during the past two Summer Olympics.

China, in particular, is very fond of the Los Angeles Lakers guard and fans line up to catch a glimpse of Bryant whenever he makes a visit to the country.

Yahoo! Sports reports that Bryant has a made an account on Chinese social media site Sina Weibo, a widely used microblogging network similar to Twitter.

Sina Weibo has verified that the NBA superstar has set up an individual account on its hugely popular microblogging site. Bryant’s followers numbered more than 100,000 within hours on Thursday, although no comments from Bryant had appeared.

Bryant has several fan pages on the website and one of them has over 200,000 followers. Kobe took over Nike Basketball’s Sina Weibo account a few days before his personal account opened, something he did before officially joining Twitter.

Ever since joining Twitter, Bryant has been very active with his fans, so it will be interesting to see how he uses Sina Weibo.
