One of the players on the Los Angeles Lakers roster that has really struggled early in the 2014-15 NBA season has been Wesley Johnson. The former lottery pick had high hopes of turning things around after an off-season of soaking up the knowledge from Kobe Bryant, but he’s had a tough time in the first 11 games.

On Wednesday night, the Lakers were able to surprise everyone with a second straight win taking down the Houston Rockets on the road. Johnson came up with one of the biggest plays of the game at the most crucial moments stripping James Harden and finishing on the end.

Kobe talked about Johnson coming through in the clutch on Wednesday saying the following on TWCSportsNet, via Lakers Nation reporter Serena Winters:

In the win over the Rockets, Johnson finished with nine points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals. Johnson’s performance may not be seen in the stat sheet, but he seemed to take a step forward on Wednesday with his defense, helping propel the Lakers to their third win of the season.

Now, the Lakers will have a day off before taking on the Dallas Mavericks on Friday in the third and final game of this road trip. The Mavs will pose arguably the biggest challenge for Los Angeles before they head back home.

Dallas is red-hot right now winning five straight as Dirk Nowitzki’s squad has only lost one game at home this season.
