On Thursday night, Bryant spoke with ESPN’s Baxter Holmes about when plans to be ready to get back to work on the basketball floor:

Kobe Bryant addressed his expectations a day after shoulder surgery Thursday night in a brief interview with ESPN, saying he planned on being ready to play come September for the Los Angeles Lakers’ training camp.

“Yeah, that’s the plan,” he said.

If all goes well, Kobe should be back in time for training camp. The superstar guard will be busy until that time with Bryant willing to recruit free agents to the Lakers this summer.

It’ll be an interesting off-season for the Lakers with a lot of uncertainty surrounding the storied franchise. All signs point to another disappointing end to this season with the team on the outside looking in on the playoffs once again.

In all likelihood, the Lakers will a secure a top-five pick in the 2015 NBA Draft and have a decent chance at luring in one or two potential game-changers in free agency. Bryant’s future remains a uncertain, but another high draft pick and a few talented free agents may help him make this team relevant next season.
