Lakers guard Kobe Bryant was voted to the All-Defense first team this year by the NBA coaches. Bryant was chosen along with Rajon Rondo, LeBron James, Kevin Garnett, and Dwight Howard.

This is the ninth first team All-Defense selection for Bryant, who has also made second team All-Defense twice and third team twice.

By receiving his ninth selection he is now tied with Michael Jordan and Gary Payton for the most in league history.

This season’s selection was certainly a surprise, as many didn’t expect Bryant to be named to the list this year. His defense was certainly not as good as it has been in the past, but that didn’t stop the coaches from voting for Bryant.
