After two consecutive losses to start the 2014-15 NBA season, a lot of people are already writing off the Los Angeles Lakers. The consensus seems to be that Kobe Bryant and company are in for another long season filled with disappointment.

Following the blowout loss to the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday night, Kobe Bryant let the media know that this team isn’t as bad as it appears, via ESPN’s Baxter Holmes:

During the off-season, the Lakers attempted to bring in some big-name free agents going after LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony. Even though Anthony seemed to be seriously considering signing with Los Angeles, the Lakers were left empty handed and forced to explore other options.

Unfortunately, the retooled squad hasn’t shown signs of promise in the first two games. Jeremy Lin played well at times during the preseason, but that has yet to carry over to the regular season. Carlos Boozer has also been a disappointment thus far after an eight turnover performance against Phoenix.

With a new head coach and a lot of new players on the squad, it’ll take time for this team to come together over the course of the season. It doesn’t help that the Lakers start the season with four games in five nights against playoff contenders, but Kobe might be right in saying this team simply isn’t as bad as it appears.
