CDR is currently playing for the Lakers’ Summer League team. Chris told reporters that Kobe and him text regularly and that Kobe told him he is ahead of the projected schedule. According to Drew Garrison of Silver Screen and Roll:

“He told me he’s three months ahead of schedule, which is very Kobe-like,” Douglas-Roberts said.

Kobe is expected to start running again in about three weeks. Bryant has hinted already that he wants to make his return on opening night of the 2013-14 NBA season.

Kobe underwent Achilles surgery after he suffered the injury at the end of the last season in April.

Number 24 has stated that he expects to play at a high level for the next three to four years. Kobe has no plans of retirement, and the Achilles injury has actually rejuvenated him to prolong his career. Kobe is motivated and determined to win his sixth championship now more than ever. Kobe is hungry to win more multiple championships before he retires.

The Lakers are hoping they can add a couple of superstars in the 2014 free agency class to team up with Kobe. With plenty of cap space and bringing back a rejuvenated Kobe, the Lakers believe they can acquire big name free agents to boost the team back to their title aspirations.

The Lakers are not over; they are retooling. Never count out the purple and gold because they always find a way to make it back to the top.
