Going into the draft, Julius Randle was one of the most highly touted prospects available, but there were concerns about a foot injury suffered in high school that didn’t heal properly.

Randle brushed those concerns off, but during the game against the Indiana Pacers, the Lakers announced that Randle would undergo surgery to repair that foot.

Randle was already slated to miss the remainder of the season after breaking his fibula in the Lakers’ season opener against the Houston Rockets. Now, Randle will have a chance to make sure his body is truly 100 percent for next season.

The Lakers view Randle as a major part of their future, and reportedly refused to include him in a trade for Rajon Rondo. Here is the press release of Randle undergoing foot surgery via the Los Angeles Lakers:

Lakers forward Julius Randle will undergo surgery on Tuesday morning to replace the screw in the fifth metatarsal of his right foot. The surgery will be performed by Dr. David Thordarson of the Cedars-Sinai Orthopaedic Center.

It was previously declared that Randle would miss the remainder of the 2014-15 season after suffering a fractured tibia of his right leg in the season opener on October 28.

He is expected to make a full recovery.
