Lakers Beating Knicks, At Least on Ticket Prices

Coming off their loss to the Cavs, the Lakers look to begin their turnaround when they head to Madison Square Garden to face the Eastern Conference leading New York Knicks. While the Lakers are always a hot ticket on Broadway, this year’s games carry even more weight with the return of Mike D’Antoni. This will be the first time that D’Antoni will return to the Garden after he resigned from the Knicks job just over nine months ago.

With the Knicks newly found success and Kobe and Dwight at Madison Square Garden, it’s no surprise that ticket prices are sky-high. In fact, at an average of $630/seat, this is the most expensive Knicks game of the season and 91% above the Knicks home average. They’re even 22% more expensive than when the Lakers visited New York last season at the peak of “Linsanity” when everybody was a little bit crazy.

The next time these teams meet will be in two weeks on Christmas Day in one of the marquee matchups of the day. Unlike the game in New York, however, tickets in LA aren’t as highly coveted. The current average price is $430 per ticket, which is still 46% higher than the normal price for Lakers tickets, but not near the 92% premium Knicks fans will have to pay. Also, getting into the Staples will cost you only $112, compared to the $169 get-in price for the game in New York. There is also an outside chance that Steve Nash could make his return to the lineup on Christmas, which would be a very nice present for everyone, and especially Mike D’Antoni.
