Lakers Call-Up Trey Johnson From the D-League

Trey Johnson was signed by the Los Angeles Lakers as a pre-season invitee, but he was released by the front office shortly before the season began. However, after the injury of point guard Steve Blake, the Lakers have re-signed Johnson for the remainder of the season, including the playoffs.

Johnson emerged as a star player in the NBA Developmental League and in the 2010-2011 season, he averaged 25.5 ppg, 4.5 apg and 4.2 rpg.

Johnson played for the Bakersfield Jam, and in their lone playoff appearance, Johnson scored 29 points as the Jam beat the Rio Grande Valley Vipers.

Johnson’s minutes are still uncertain, but he will provid the Lakers with speed and athleticism if Phil Jackson were to play him. In the D-League, Johnson is a top candidate for the MVP, but in the NBA he can win a championship ring with the Los Angeles Lakers.
