A little over a year ago, Kobe Bryant played his last NBA game with the Los Angeles Lakers, going out with a bang as he scored 60 points to earn a comeback victory over the Utah Jazz.

With basketball no longer his profession, many wondered what the hard-working Bryant would venture in next in his life.

He answered that question recently when he debuted his lately project, Canvas City, a documentary for children teaching them about the game of basketball, on ESPN.

Bryant has said that storytelling and teaching are his passions now that his basketball career is over, so the documentary series made sense.

It appears that is not all that he is up to though, as Bryant and Nike recently announced that they are forming a youth basketball league in Los Angeles called the Mamba League.

Bryant said that seeing kids get better and learn is the reason he is creating the league, via Brett Pollakoff of Fox Sports:

“I like seeing kids get better,” Bryant said in the video. “I like seeing the light go on where they’re like, ‘OK, I couldn’t do this last week, but now I can.’ It’s almost like watching magic slowly develop in front of your eyes.”

The league will be for both boys and girls from ages 8-10, and will use a lower hoop to help them focus on the technique of their shot.

“Play, learn, grow” is the mantra of the league, and it will focus on teaching the young children, something Bryant has criticized AAU basketball for not doing.

Where and when the league will begin is currently unknown, but it is in the works in the Los Angeles area.
