Los Angeles Lakers forward Brandon Ingram was off to a strong start in Saturday’s game against the Dallas Mavericks before leaving the court for the visiting locker room during the break between the first and second quarters because he tweaked his left ankle.

Ingram, who had scored four points on 2-for-2 shooting, to go along with six rebounds and five assists to that point, was ultimately able to return to the game after the team diagnosed him with an ankle tweak and re-taped him.

But after playing three more minutes he left the game again and again headed back to the locker room. The Lakers then announced Ingram would not return as he was saddled by a ‘mild’ left ankle sprain.

Ingram’s timetable for a return is currently unknown. The Lakers next play Monday, when their road trip continues against the Memphis Grizzlies.

Ingram has dealt with his fair share of injuries this season, suffering a head contusion during the preseason and missing two more games with varying lower leg injuries.

The second-year forward is averaging 16.4 points per game this season (second-highest on the team) to go with 5.4 rebounds and 3.3 assists. If Ingram misses much time, Josh Hart and Corey Brewer could both see an increase in minutes or potentially start in his stead.

Hart started in place of Ingram in the second half against the Mavericks.
